Dear parents,

Welcome to a week of wild weather extremes.

Thank you to all the parents who prepared the gardens and provided afternoon tea for the Regional Director’s visit. Maria Gray-Spence was so impressed by her visit to our school. The children were wonderful in what they showed her and Tait and Eleanor made us all proud in the manner in which they escorted her around the school. I know it was a huge effort to get the gardens cleaned out, but now they have the mulch on they should be great throughout the long break.

Last week we had a Smartboard, and associated technology for video conferencing, installed in the double classroom. On Tuesday and Wednesday all the class teachers, plus Carole Nicola our computer teacher, have compulsory training on its use. We tried in vain to have the date altered so it wouldn’t clash with the concert, etc. It should be a great asset once we can all use it.

A big thank you to Linda, who rearranged her life to fill in the gap while Mrs Fisher was a way. Thank you to all of you who returned the survey forms. We can extend for a couple more days, as the Annual School Report template only came on line yesterday.

BIRTHDAY WISHES:

Jake - last Tuesday, 17th November  (Apologies for getting it wrong last week)

SPORT THIS WEEK:

Fitness track.

EXCURSION – “SYMPHONY FOR KIDS”

Yesterday we had a marvellous excursion to “Symphony For Kids”. It was so “kid friendly”. A few of the musicians demonstrated their instruments and they played some excerpts from “The Lion King”, “William Tell Overture”, Greig’s “Morning”, “Jaws”, “The Wiggles”, etc.

CONCERT

With the concert on next week, there are a few important things for you all to know. On Tuesday, 1st December, we will go down to Sutton for a rehearsal. At 11 o’clock we will be holding a matinee performance. Parents of pre-schoolers and/or grandparents who don’t like to drive at night often prefer this. Everyone is invited to come. After that we will bus the children back. We should arrive back at 1.30pm. We would then encourage you to take your children home for a rest, as they will be required back at the Sutton school hall at 6.45pm, ready for a very late night. It is tradition that we have supper at the conclusion of the concert. We ask that each family brings two plates for supper: one for the children’s table and one for the adults’ table.

On Thursday (26th), Friday (27th) Monday (30th) and Tuesday (1st) we will be travelling by bus to Sutton school Hall for our concert rehearsals. If we have not received your signed permission slip, another is attached.  We need this for THIS THURSDAY.  We have hired buses to take us there and back.  We are paying for all of this from our drought money.

ASSEMBLIES – None this Friday

Because of our concert practise, this week, we will not be having an assembly on Friday. Next week, however, we will be having an assembly where our Year 5 children will give their election speeches as they “run for office” in 2010.

CONNECTED CLASSROOM

On 18th and 19th November, a new Smartboard was installed in the double classroom. This will be new technology enabling us to have video conferencing, for schools and classes to exchange information, etc. One end of the room was partitioned off while this work is being done. The other Smartboard was relocated to the Kinder room after the original work is done. This is all really exciting progress.

KINDER CAMP – Friday 27th November

The medium term forecast for Friday is for cooler conditions but some possibility of rain. The camp will go ahead as planned except in the case of ridiculous heat or wet weather.

KINDER CONCERT COSTUMES

Kindergarten students require a green shirt or top to complete their outfit for next week’s concert. If you have anything suitable that you could lend to us, we would be most grateful. Size and shade of green are not important. Please label your contribution and take it to the Kinder classroom. Thank you.

SWIMMING LESSONS- AIS

7TH DECEMBER – 16TH DECEMBER

We will be starting our Swim School in two weeks. The children will need a swimming costume, a towel and a cap. The caps are provided by the AIS. Goggles are not essential, but the children usually find it more comfortable to have them in the chlorinated water. (We can always help them buy these at the AIS if you wish). Caps are always easier to put on if you shake some talc powder around in them before putting them on.

All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 attend.  The students are graded by ability, and taught in small groups by qualified AIS staff.  The students travel by bus, leaving school at 12.15 and returning by 3pm.  The cost per student will be $48 (maximum per family $96).  This is the cost of the lessons only; the school will pay for the bus from our Drought Assistance money.   If you have a problem paying, please let the school know, as we may be able to help.

If you have not already done so, please sign the attached permission note.

We are also sending home information from the AIS about these lessons AND A SKILLS FORM FOR YOU TO FILL IN AND RETURN ASAP as they are being picked up next week.  Thank you.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL

This will be held on Wednesday, 9th December at the Gundaroo Hall from 6 to 8.30pm.  All Year 3 to Year 6 students are invited to attend.  More information later.

CANTEEN FUNDRAISING

Thank you to all of you parents supported our fundraiser on Friday. We raised $290 for Canteen. Stephen gave a great talk to the children about his experience and answered lots of questions.

GYMNASTICS

Gymnastics is now over. We had some fabulous sessions. Because we couldn’t get into the church for one session, we had to use the playground. After that we opted to use the playground because we were able to incorporate many more pieces of apparatus e.g. parallel bars, “uneven” bars and roman rings into the circuits.

BAND

Please bring your instruments to school every day until the Breakfast on 11th December.

There is a musical instrument hire form coming soon. Hirers will be expected to cover repairs etc. and there will be a loan fee to cover the purchase of reeds, music, etc.

2010 ENROLMENTS – Enrolment forms please!

Could everyone please return their enrolment forms ASAP please?  You must also bring in proof of age i.e. Birth Certificate, passport, immunisation information and proof of address i.e. rates notice, electricity bill etc.  Thank you in anticipation.

LIBRARY

Thank you to everyone who have returned Library books.  We also need all classroom readers to be returned, as these also need to be in the stock take.

GOSH NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS AND THOSE ATTENDING GOSH THIS YEAR FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING 23rd NOVEMBER, 2009

CHRISTMAS PARTY:

Anyone who has attended GOSH this year is welcome to attend our end of year Christmas Party on Wednesday 2nd December.  Would parents please let me know if their child is attending our Christmas Party (for catering purposes) by contacting Ros directly at GOSH after 3.00 p.m. or ringing me at home and leaving a message or on my mobie.  Alternatively, leave a note with Helen Curtis.  Thank you.

Andrea Holer, from Freestyling Circus Adventures will be coming along to the Christmas party from 4.00 – 5.30 p.m. to show her circus skills to the children.  This will be a great opportunity also for parents to come along at that time and see what the children will be involved in once a week in Term 1 next year when this is being offered as part of our Sports Active After School Communities program for 2010.

The Christmas Party will run from 3.00 until 5.30 p.m.  Children can be picked up by 6.00 p.m. as usual, if necessary, for those working mums.

GOSH CHRISTMAS HAMPER:

The tub is now in front of Helen Curtis’s desk in the school’s office area, so if you are able to contribute something to the GOSH Christmas Hamper, to be drawn at the Community breakfast, then your offering will be greatly appreciated.  Many Thanks.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Donations of Acrylic Wool

A group at The University of the Third Age (U3A) is collecting acrylic wool to knit or crochet rugs for the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.
Each woman who attends the clinic is given a new dress, a scarf and a stole or rug when they leave.  The r
ug is knitted or crocheted with colourful wool scraps.  The group at the U3A is looking for donations of 8-ply acrylic wool to knit/crochet (they cannot transport wool to Africa).

If you happen to have a few balls of 8 ply acrylic left over from other projects I can forward them to the group to be made into rugs.

Thanks

Juanita
